The Devils & The Details

ManU Reports $113M Loss
Less than two weeks from facing rival Chelsea in the UEFA Champions League final, Manchester United's on-field success is not reflected in the Glazer family’s bank account. In the most recent FY, ManU reports losses of $113.3M, and the club still owes creditors up to $1.5B. While the Red Devils are on the verge of on-field greatness, SI.com's Gavin Hamilton notes the Glazers' finances "could start to unravel" if ManU loses to Chelsea. The news is not all bad -- ManU's $1.8B value tops Forbes' valuations of soccer clubs, making it the most valuable sports franchise in the world. However, a new cloud could hang over the sport in England, as a recent immigration law requires all EPL players to pass an English-language test. Stateside, the Dynamo receive a potentially huge boost in their ongoing stadium efforts as Texas Southern Univ. offers to help finance the endeavor.

NOTE: * = The list of schools and teams that have posted two consecutive scores of less than 900 on the NCAA’s academic progress report. A third consecutive score under 900 next year would ban the teams from postseason competition. The NCAA yesterday cited over 700 college athletic programs in its annual Academic Progress Report (APR) and punished 218 teams for failing to reach the minimum 925 mark.
